Microsoft to Make Xbox Series X Mini Fridge Meme A Reality

Update: The Xbox series X is expected to restock at Currys or Argos shortly.

Supply chain problems continue to plague the Xbox series X, making it virtually impossible for shoppers to find Microsoft’s next-generation console in stock online.

While the cheaper Xbox series S is easier to find in most UK stores, the more powerful Xbox series X console is in higher demand. It’s now been eight months since the console’s launch, but new stock is sporadic and sells out in minutes.

If you want to know where to buy an Xbox series X today, we’ve got you covered. Our stock tracking liveblog will update you with the latest stock drops as soon as they happen, as well as any news on predicted restock dates and milestone events.

Where can you buy a PS5 today?

The global chip shortage has harmed more than just your chances of buying an Xbox series X, it’s also slowed production of the rival PS5 to a crawl.

Sony’s next-generation console is more readily available than the Xbox series X, but so is demand. When new stock does appear it tends to sell out quickly.

To give you a fighting chance of finding a PS5 in stock online, we’ve got a PS5 stock tracking liveblog that’s constantly updated with the latest information on which retailers have the PS5 in stock.

Currys is down for maintenance

(Currys)

Probably nothing to worry about – but maybe… just maybe… the IT guys are busily adding server capacity for the most enormous Xbox series X restock we’ve seen in months.

Can you buy an Xbox series X in store?

Here at Xbox stock tracking HQ we’ve got every online retailer up on an enormous grid of flickering screens, like out of The Matrix or a betting shop in 1989.

But we also do our best to keep tabs on the availability of the Xbox series X on physical shelves too. These brick and mortar stores are more difficult to track and by the time we tell you about in-store stock it will have long sold out, but just knowing which stores get stock can help guide your real-world search.

We’ve heard reports of sporadic in-store restocks at John Lewis, Game and Smyths throughout June and July.

It’s a long shot, but it wouldn’t hurt to stroll into your local stores and start asking questions.

The best VPN for Xbox

Do you use your Xbox to watch Netflix or other streaming services? Well, you might want to consider installing a VPN on your games console. A virtual private network keeps you secure online, blocks trackers, and lets you spoof your location to access TV shows and movies not normally available in your country.

The Xbox series X doesn’t have native VPN support, but you can install a VPN to your router to anonymise every device on your network at once. You can also route your Xbox’s internet traffic through your PC, and install the VPN there. Be aware that it’s against the terms of service of most streaming platforms to disguise your true location.

To use a VPN with your Xbox series X without slowing it down, you’ll want to make sure the VPN you choose is fast and responsive enough to avoid lag and dropouts playing online. To help you out, we’ve rounded up the best VPNs for torrenting, streaming and gaming.

When is ‘Cyberpunk 2077′ coming to Xbox series X?

At least that’s the latest suggestion from developer CD Projekt Red. With no news lately, it’s looking more and more likely that the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 could slip into next year.

The dystopian shooter-RPG launched in September 2020 but was so buggy and prone to crashing that it was borderline unplayable. Cyberpunk 2077 was so broken in fact that Sony and Microsoft removed the game from sale until some of the most heinous glitches could be patched.

After a few updates, CD Projekt Red’s game is in a much better state. There’s still no word on an Xbox series X version, but owners of the original will receive the next-gen upgrade for free when it arrives.

When will Asda have the Xbox series X in stock?

In the entire time we’ve been running this Xbox stock tracking liveblog, poor Asda hasn’t restocked the Xbox series X once.

Our records show that it’s been around six months since Asda last sold an Xbox, which downgrades the retailer from “overdue a restock” to “maybe they’ve completely forgotten about the Xbox”.

However! One glimmer of hope is that Asda restocked the PS5 on Wednesday – so the retailer is aware that next-generation consoles exist.

We’ve never given up on Asda, and constantly monitor the retailer’s products pages for new Xbox series X stock popping up.

Smyths is now sold out of the Xbox series X

(Smyths Toys)

Smyths Toys is no longer offering the Xbox series X through the Xbox All Access programme.

The retailer opened up applications for the payment plan yesterday evening and continued selling the console overnight until it ran out of stock this morning.

What is Xbox All Access?

Game and Smyths have been selling the Xbox series X exclusively through the Xbox All Access programme this week. But what is it exactly?

Xbox All Access lets you spread the cost of the Xbox series X or Xbox series S over two years. Rather than pay £449 for the console up front, you pay 24 monthly instalments of £28.99. This includes two years of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the games subscription service allowing you to access more than 100 games on demand. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate usually costs £10.99 per month.

(Microsoft)

That works out as £712 worth of stuff for £695. Assuming the price of the Xbox series X or the cost of an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription doesn’t fall in the next two years, that makes Xbox All Access pretty good value for money.

You need to pass a credit check through the buy-now-pay-later service Klarna. You also need to find an Xbox in stock.

Stick with us and we’ll alert you as soon as consoles are available.

When is the Xbox series X back in stock at Currys?

The Xbox series X is looking smaller and smaller in Currys’ rear view mirror. The retailer was once the most reliable place to buy Microsoft’s next-generation console but – besides a single Xbox coming into stock this week – last restocked on 25 June. That’s 42 days ago – the meaning of life, the universe and Xboxes.

This makes Currys long overdue a proper restock –the retailer is ripe, glistening and ready to pop.

(Xbox)

Tired of waiting? Well the cheaper Xbox series S is currently in stock (£279, Currys.co.uk).
