According to the reports by Afgan Media Khama, in a recent meeting held by the Ministry of Telecommunication with the representatives of the security sector and a representative from the Sharia law enforcement administration in Taliban-ruled Afghanistan, which have decided to impose a ban on the popular battle royale game PUBG Mobile within the next three months. As per sources, the Taliban consider competitive gaming titles to promote violence and be a bad influence on the youth of the nation.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG ) Mobile is a free-to-play multiplayer battle royale game. It is widely popular and has garnered over 1 billion downloads globally. It is one of the most fan-favourite mobile gaming titles despite bans on it in multiple regions. Many South Asian countries including India and Bangladesh have restricted this game in the past. Now, Afghanistan will become the latest nation to join the list of countries banning this popular BR title.
Taliban is going to ban TikTok and Pubg applications in Afghanistan within next 3 months times, the Ministry of Telecommunication announced on Saturday. 1/2https://t.co/5mSTdVVAQJ
To ensure that it is implemented according to plan in the period scheduled, the Ministry of Telecommunication in Afghanistan has communicated the decision to all telecommunications and internet service providers in the nation.
In addition to India and Bangladesh, nations including Iran, Nepal, Jordan, Iraq, Israel, and others have outlawed the PUBG mobile. India, however, had prohibited the game on grounds of data security and privacy. The title was accused of collecting and sharing sensitive users’ data.
Time and time again, battle royale games have been put on the crosshair due to their alleged “violent” gameplay nature. They have also been accused of promoting addiction in the youth, especially in children. In most cases, rather than taking preventive measures to restrict addiction in youth playing the game, lawmakers decide on a nationwide ban on the game.
Thus, Esports players, gaming fans, and gaming organizations in Afghanistan have been critical of this move. Considering the growth that various gaming titles are witnessing in recent times, there is no scope for the competitive scenario to flourish in those regions.
