PS5 Coil Whine – What Is It and Can I Fix It? I have two new PS5s that I’m going to be looking at today. I started by disconnecting the fans so I could more clearly hear if there was something whining. Actually a lot of times “coil whine” isn’t really a whine – it’s more a buzzing or ticking sound. Both of my PS5s had a noticeable buzzing sound so then I had to track down where it was coming from.

About This Video:
I found the source of coil whine on my PS5. The noise seems to be coming from a capacitor inside the power supply of both of my PS5’s. But now I need to figure out how to fix it.

I think they all have it. Some ‘might’ be worse than others however there’s 3 big external factors. One is it doesn’t really happen on ps4 games or games not really pushing. Another is distance from the console and any sound insulation the console has, such as a cabinet at the back of a room. And lastly really depends on if the room is silent or not. Bothered me for months then had a plumbing issue with a pipe in the wall making a slight noise, much less irritating and quieter than the ps5 whine, but completely covered it up.

Well for what i can tell from mine, the buzz is on games. Wreckfest ps5 makes alot of buzz on gaming it self, not on loadings. Sackboy does it but just a little, fifa 21 almost silent, ps4 games makes no noise. On the console it self doesnt do any noise on menus. Whats going on here? Its the same sound u find on old tvs buzzing on image changing lol
