Virginia Tech football fans got to witness the Hokies storm out to a 20-0 halftime lead Saturday and go on to defeat Wofford 27-7 to improve to 2-1 on the season and a perfect 2-0 at Lane Stadium.
While in the process of the 20-point victory, there were some noteworthy statistics that stood out and you can check out those tidbits below in Sunday’s edition of Notable Numbers.
This was the first meeting between Tech and Wofford, which is in the Southern Conference. Tech became a charter member of the SoCon back on Feb. 25, 1921. The program eventually withdrew from the league in June 1965. Overall, the Hokies are now 149-120-22 against the SoCon and 24-4-1 in Lane Stadium.
When facing opponents for the first time, Tech is now 78-22-1 all-time and 53-17-2 at home. The Hokies are on a nine-game winning streak versus first-time opponents, with the streak starting with then-No. 1 Ohio State in 2014.
Once again, the defense came out strong on crucial downs. They’ve held the offense to three or fewer third downs in the first three games of the season for the third time since 1987 (Beamer era-present).
