PlayStation has had its fair share of corporate shake-ups over the past few years, with some executives moving up the ladder, changing focus, or jumping ship. Shawn Layden left the company in 2019, much to the dismay of industry enthusiasts. What he’s doing in the meantime is receding into the public domain, though A new post on LinkedIn has revealed where he is currently posted.
In an update, Leyden says he is now a strategic consultant at Tencent. “In this new role, I look forward to mentoring, assisting and supporting the team at Tencent as they deepen their activities and commitments in the industry to which I have dedicated most of my career,” he said. writes We’ve reached “an era-defining moment in gaming and interactive entertainment,” added Layden, and he’s “thrilled to continue this journey of discovery.”
The former chairman of PlayStation Studios left Sony because he felt burned out from his responsibilities. Since then, he has joined a handful of companies in an advisory/consultant role, and appears to be maintaining those positions despite this new job at Tencent. Meanwhile, Leyden has expressed his concerns about the consolidation of the industry and the rising cost of making AAA games.
